Adding a Printer.
Setting up your printers in Windows 2000 Professional is actually very easy, more so than it was in Windows 95 or 98.
  • The first step is to double click on the Shortcut to Controllericon on your desktop
  • From there you see a listing of all the computers available in the CONTROLLER domain
  • Double click on the computer named Co3
  • A window will come up listing the available shares (printers and folders) available
  • click on Start>Settings > Printers on your local computer to open a window displaying all of the printers installed on your computer
  • Now all you have to do is drag the printer you need from the \\Co3 window to the Printers window you just opened
  • In a few seconds the printer will show up on the available printers list on your computer

    Make a Printer Your Default.
    To set any given printer installed on your machine to be your default printer, follow these steps:
  • Simply right click on the printer you'd like to be your default in your printers window and select Set as Default Printer
  • You will notice a black circle with a check mark in it at the top right hand corner of the printer icon for the printer you selected as default.

    Add a Printer from the Backup Server:
    Our main server, co3, may experience problems that prevent you from printing. In order to address this we have a secondary server, co4, that also has printers defined for failure situations. I suggest you only install the printer that you typically print to. Installing a printer is very easy, and you should be able to do this in a matter of moments.
  • The first step is to double click on the Shortcut to Controller icon on your desktop
  • From there you see a listing of all the computers available in the CONTROLLER domain
  • Double click on the computer named Co4
  • A window will come up listing the available shares (printers and folders) available
  • click on Start > Settings > Printers to open a window displaying all of the printers installed on your computer
  • Now all you have to do is drag the printer you need from the \\Co3 window to the Printers window you just opened
  • In a few seconds the printer will show up on the available printers list on your computer
